DRUMS – JAY CONSTABLE

Jay began his musical life at age 8 on the trumpet, following in the footsteps of his father, renouned Pittsburgh trumpeter Danny Conn. It was watching his dad play with some of Pittsburgh’s top drummers that Jay decided to make the switch to drums at age 12.

Being self-taught at first, Jay drew heavily from rock legends such as John Bonham (Led Zeppelin) and Neil Peart (Rush).

Branching out, Jay began to study jazz, classical, drumline, and world rhythms like calypso, reggae, afro-cuban, and brazillian styles, while playing in various bands, including a touring circus band that his dad led. All of this would help mold Jay’s style as an all-purpose drummer, capable of playing any style.

Throughout the years, Jay has played with some of Pittsburgh’s top bands, including Brownie Mary, Sputzy and the Soul Providers, Kenia, Carribean Vibes Steelband, The Legends of Pittsburgh Steelers Cruise Band, and even as a sideman on Americas Got Talent.

With a focus on practical drumming, balancing style and technique with feel and groove, Jay can prepare you or your child with the practical skills necessary for your musical goals.
